5 easy steps to a great daytime skincare routine

Many women are chasing after the quickest most affordable ways to achieve beautiful clear skin just like some of our favourite celebrities. With so many advancements in skincare products and treatments, it can be quite daunting to think of how to build your very own skincare routine that doesn’t leave you broke in the end. It can be quite simple but first it is important to determine your skin type. Whether your skin is oily, dry, combination, sensitive or normal, skin type plays a huge role in the products you choose to help you better take care of your skin.

Your skin’s job is to keep things out, but many of the skincare products we use have ingredients we want to get in. The trouble in that is only a small amount of these key ingredients in our products can penetrate the skin easily. Therefore, to see the best results from your regimen, it is best that you choose your products carefully for your skin type and apply them correctly to see real improvements from your regimen. Your daytime and night-time routine shouldn’t be the same, which is another common mistake many women make. However, now that you know this, let us take a look at how to improve your daytime skincare routine with these five easy steps.

Washing your face is the most basic and essential step of your skincare routine. We often forget that our skin comes into contact with not only the makeup that we might wear but also  environmental pollutants and dirt every day. Washing your face each morning and night with a gentle cleanser to avoid clogged pores, dullness and acne is a necessary first step in your skincare regimen.

Toning the skin is a step that most people take for granted and choose to skip. Partly because it is assumed that most toners are harsh and can irritate the skin. However, this isn’t exactly the case since brands are now formulating toners that not only strip excess dirt from the pores but they shrink the pores, provide acids, antioxidants and other vitamins that the skin loves. Moreso, many women disregard the great job toner’s do at returning the skin’s pH after cleansing.

If you’re not using serums in your routine you are definitely missing out. Face serums are lightweight moisturisers that contain a high concentration of active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and vitamin C. This isn’t the same as your moisturisers though, rather serums are so moisturising and good for the skin that they can help to deliver some major beauty benefits. Serums are known for addressing specific concerns, which is why is should be applied earlier in your routine that way all those great nutrients get into the skin better. There are various serums available on the market today what can do a great job at neutralising damage from UV rays and preventing the clogging from environmental pollutants.

Every one woman needs to moisturise her skin. Yes, even when you have oily skin — especially after you have applied your serum. Not only does the moisturiser give the skin added moisture but it helps to lock in the nutrients from your serum, providing the skin with optimum hydration.

Sunscreen is the last yet very important step in your daytime skincare routine. While in the Caribbean we are blessed with the beautiful sun, it’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can be quite damaging to our skin.

Even if you aren’t going to be directly in the sun, the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can penetrate through the windows in the office, at home, and car which means you’re still exposed. If you don’t want the added hassle of applying sunscreen after moisturising your skin, then consider getting a moisturiser that contains SPF in it. It’s good to keep in mind that your lips protection too so you can try to also grab lip balms with an SPF 15 or higher.

Following these five steps with the products best suited for your skin type is a great start to beautiful skin. Although the skin requires more than just a great day time regimen to deliver that clear appearance it’s a good start to ensuring that you skin is protected and filled with all the good ingredients it deserves.
